Anolis distichus, the Bark anole;
Miami-Dade county, Florida (13 March 2023).
Spring Break 2023
I didn’t see too many Bark anoles on this particular day trip throughout the Coral Gables and South Miami area. A fairly small species (in comparison to the other non-native anoles), the Bark anole is quite shy and reactive, usually slinking to the far end of whatever tree trunk it’s trying to blend in with. They have more than a little competition from above and below their mid-trunk range, so their reactiveness is more than understandable. Bark anoles don’t have it easy in south Florida. There’s a lot of competition down there!
