I didn’t come across many Brown watersnakes on this particular trip. This was the closest I was able to get to one, and it was pretty well fortified. I usually find this species basking on limbs overhanging or adjacent to the water, but this one had taken a liking to some rocks cracked around the edge of the canal line — pretty low to the water but with ample retreat-coverage. This snake had a good spot picked out!
