Sistrurus miliarius barbouri, the Dusky pigmy rattlesnake;
Volusia county, Florida (04 September 2016).
This is the typical posture/position of a Dusky pigmy rattlesnake going nowhere in the plenty of time, to borrow a phrase from N. Scott Momaday. Such a patient, calm, yet extremely-attuned and persistently-ready state of being. I can think of no other local snake that straddles the duality of tranquility and tension quite so much as the Dusky pigmy rattlesnake.
