Nerodia floridana, the Florida green watersnake;
Lake county, Florida (01 March 2015).
A mid-sized Florida green watersnake poised on a picnic table in Mount Dora, Florida. Usually, this species would be situated a bit offshore, likely basking on a matte of reedy, aquatic growth just above the water’s surface. This relatively modest (and still somewhat young) adult was good enough to pose on a picnic table for me. Heh. Florida green watersnakes are entirely non-venomous and non-aggressive.
