Erythemis simplicicollis, the Eastern pondhawk;
Volusia county, Florida (05 June 2007).

Being one of our more-common dragons in this part of Florida, I’m always delighted to see an Eastern pondhawk searching out adventure and carnage in the summer sunshine, especially the emerald green females (the males are fairly bluish and not nearly as cool).
