Nerodia fasciata, 23 April 2016

Nerodia fasciata, the Banded watersnake;
Nassau county (23 April 2016).
Learn more about this species at iNaturalist.org.

NOTE: N. fasciata in extreme north Florida may arguably be N. f. pictiventris, the Florida banded watersnake, N. f. fasciata, the Southern banded watersnake, or an intergrade of the two. I have no personal stake in the debate and tend to tag the Florida individuals as N. f. pictiventris, though I suspect intergradation is often a factor.
