Agkistrodon conanti, 07 May 2020

Agkistrodon conanti, the Florida cottonmouth;
Volusia county, Florida (07 May 2020).

I startled this Florida cottonmouth on a small trail running adjacent to a low-lying creek bed. The moccasin took to the edge of the creek at first (as seen here). After a few moments, it worked its way back up to higher ground (while still keeping its distance from me) and took up a defensive posture under a small palm (as seen in the previous and next post).
