Spring Break 2018: The Royal Palm

Roystonea regia, the Royal palm;
Collier county, Florida (15 March 2018).
Series: Spring Break 2018.

Here’s a simple iPhone shot of a Royal palm, Roystonea regia, standing guard at our campground in Big Cypress National Preserve. A simple-yet-elegant species, the Royal palm naturally ranges throughout parts of South Florida, Cuba, and westward to central America. We don’t see too many of them where I live in Volusia county (eastern-central Florida), so I’m always happy to be greeted by them when I head south.
