Spring Break 2018: The Little Blue Heron

Egretta caerulea, the Little blue heron;
Collier county, Florida (15 March 2018).
Series: Spring Break 2018.

Another classic Florida bird, though again not limited or exclusive to the Sunshine State, is the Little blue heron, Egretta caerulea. Ranging throughout most of the Americas of the Western hemisphere (including the Caribbean), the Little blue heron is perhaps less impressive than its relative the Great blue heron, Ardea herodias, but it is nevertheless a slick and cool customer. This Little blue heron was quietly pecking the shallows waters of Collier county in search of tasty snacks. Herons are species of quiet and steady patience and persistence.
